                                                                       Sports

Several sporting games take place in the country with rugby league as the main sporting game of the country. The national league name of rugby is called the Papua New Guinea Kumuls. This team is comprised of selected players of Intercity Games from each centers that part take in the intercity cup, which was recently changed to B-Mobile Cup after the major sponsor. The current Kumuls played for the four nations games against the Australian Kangaroos, New Zealand Kiwis and French which the New Zealanders became the champions defeating the rugby league heros, Australian Kangaroos.

The one in the air on shoulders of the team mates is PNG Kumuls Captain Stanley Gene, currently coach of the Kumuls.
Stanley has been playing league in England as an international player and comes to play for the country to play against other nations.
Now he has coached the Kumuls to the four nations but lost all games to the superior teams of rugby league. However, PNG is still the champions of rugby league compared to other Pacific nations apart from Australia and New Zealand. Kumuls had made into the Four Nations after defeating the other Pacific Nations. Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoan lost to Kumuls. Now Kumuls is looking forward to play the World Cup against the other nations.

Sam PerrettThe people of Papua New Guinea are die hard fans of rugby league. Well, they aren't just fan but are players of rugby league. PNG has looked upon rugby league as a major and important game compared to other sports. Every centers in the country as its own organized leagues as Clubs. The Clubs then produces the best players to represent their province in the major Inter-City Game Challenges across the country. The best of representatives of each centers are selected to make up the national team "PNG KUMULS" to challange against other countries like Australia, New Zealand, England and or other countries in the Pacific that are affiliates of Rugby League Inc. PNG has seen the importance of influence rugby league has on unemployed youths it decided to introduce school boys rugby league in 2010, as most schools in Australia do. In the mean time the PNGRFL Board is unsteady due to frequent changes in the administrations to swipe out the corrupt practices that some past administrators have instigated. This PNGRFL administration malfunction has caused it to lose the Coach and previous Captain of the Kumuls, Adrian Lam. his incumbent Stanley Gene has led the Kumuls to the Four Nations (2010) and lost in every games. Gary Juffa was the Chairman in this period. The issue is still pending as it went before the supreme court's suspension in order to prevent further failures. It seems that rumours of political interference has been aired and so caused more instability in the board. In relation to this a meeting that was scheduled in Lae has been postponed to an indefinate time untill the Supreme Court releases the restraining order is what I think. Anyhow, inspite of this issue games are still going on, now starting with the Cocoa Cola Ipatas Cup beginning in Lae. There are other games played as well apart from rugby league.

Papua New Guinea Intercity Digicel Cup will kick off as of next month. The franchise owners of the Intercity Cup challenges are now working hard around the clock to grasp the best players they can to compete in the Papua New Guinea's number one Game, rugby league. Two new franchise owners have brought two new teams into the competition. The Gulf Isapea of Gulf based in Central, Port moresby and the Hela Wigmen of the new Hela Province. The Hela province was once part of Southern Highlands, but the people of Hela have been making a plea over ten years or so to have their own province and at last it has been fulfilled. The Somare Govt. 2011 have approved the electoral boundaries for Hela to gain its own province. It will come into effect during the 2012 National Election. Another province that will also be converted to its birth is the Jiwaka province which use to be part of the Western Highlands Province.
